So far, sooooo good!

Wow! The Winnipeg Improv Festival is off to a roaring start, with some face-melting performances on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Seriously. My cheeks still hurt from all of the laughing.

On Tuesday, we kicked things off with a sampler platter that had a packed house going nuts over the special guests Christian Capozzoli, Kayla Lorette, George Basil, RobYn Slade and Fraz Wiest. Winnipeg's favourite improv duo, Crumbs, tied the whole night together, and our photographer Janet Shum took some lovely photographic documentation.

The Winnipeg Fringe Festival is almost here and to celebrate improvisation we have the longest running improv jam show in Winnipeg to help us out. The Big Stupid Improv Show is an improv jam show that runs in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver and anywhere else that cares to use the name and throw random comedic actors onstage with improvisers for a Big Stupid Show! The show was first formed in Edmonton as a last minute fundraiser and was named by Wes Borg (of Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie fame). The first one in the Winnipeg Fringe happened in 1998 and has been running practically every year since then. The idea is to bring all the great local improvisers and comedians and throw them onstage with all the great touring performers that are in town for the Fringe. The Winnipeg iF... Improv Festival 2011

Well, soon. The Winnipeg iF... Improv Festival is going to be hitting Winnipeg September 20th - 24th. The festival is produced with generous help from the Gas Station Arts Centre and from the blood sweat and tears from the Winnipeg Improv community. Keep your ear to the wind as we keep out noses to the grindstone. We will be releasing information as it gets leaked to us from out spies... Kevin McDonald to guest star at the Winnipeg Improv Festival October 3rd.

Kevin McDonald, used to have a TV show in the '90s; and not just any TV show, a good TV show. In fact, a seminal Canadian comedy sketch show. I'll stop beating around the bush and come right out and say that it was of course the much-loved "The Kids in the Hall." Kevin McDonald will be guest starring in the Big Stupid Improv Show on the  Thursday  night ( October 3rd ) at the Gas Station Arts Centre. The show will be in the tradition of the "Armando Diaz Experience" and the ASSSSCAT 3000, which are improv shows that feature a special guest telling true stories. The cast of ensemble improvisers will then use this as inspiration to improvise scenes of hilarity. Get your tickets NOW!
