We are mere hours away from the kick off of the 12th Winnipeg IF... Improv Festival. Holy smokes!

Some of us can hardly believe the IF is happening.


Our out-of-town performers have landed and are getting mentally prepared to face the hungry Winnipeg audiences.

Stephen and Lee from CRUMBS host the opening show of the Winnipeg Improv Festival by doing scenes with out of town guests and local players in this Improv Festival tradition. The Festival Sampler show at the King's Head pub is a part of the on going Free Laughs Comedy Series that puts on free live comedy shows at the King's Head every Tuesday night. It is entering the fifth season of production. The sampler is exactly that, a free show that lets the audiences catch a glimpse and “sample” the improv styles of the guests that are coming to play in Winnipeg at the festival. Kick back, enjoy a beverage and a snack while the experts entertain you.

And you can hear Stephen and Lee of CRUMBS live on CBC Radio One today, 990 AM and 89.3 FM, on Up to Speed.


Then, they continue on with taping some improvised videos for CBC's Manitoba Scene site, based on suggestions from CBC listeners. Stay tuned to the website for that!

The Winnipeg Fringe Festival is almost here and to celebrate improvisation we have the longest running improv jam show in Winnipeg to help us out. The Big Stupid Improv Show is an improv jam show that runs in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver and anywhere else that cares to use the name and throw random comedic actors onstage with improvisers for a Big Stupid Show! The show was first formed in Edmonton as a last minute fundraiser and was named by Wes Borg (of Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie fame). Kevin McDonald to guest star at the Winnipeg Improv Festival October 3rd.

Kevin McDonald, used to have a TV show in the '90s; and not just any TV show, a good TV show. In fact, a seminal Canadian comedy sketch show. I'll stop beating around the bush and come right out and say that it was of course the much-loved "The Kids in the Hall." Kevin McDonald will be guest starring in the Big Stupid Improv Show on the  Thursday  night ( October 3rd ) at the Gas Station Arts Centre. The show will be in the tradition of the "Armando Diaz Experience" and the ASSSSCAT 3000, which are improv shows that feature a special guest telling true stories. Meet... Christian Capozzoli! (New York)

Christian Capazzoli is an improviser in New York City, and that is a famous city. Not only is he from a famous city, he is also an amazing improv player and teacher. He is just so excited about improv he can barely contain himself; he can barely form words. But when he does, they are beautiful words, strung into beautiful sentences. I first got to play with Christian in Vancouver and have loved every time I have been on stage with him since. He still has the honest playfulness of a kid playing in a sandbox, except his sandbox is the stage and he will let you use his best shovel. He plays with 4Track and he will make you wish you had seen them a hundred times after you see them the first time.
